Think you’re cool when you write “Wash Me” on the back of someone’s dirty car?  This artist would put you to shame: He sketches in the dirt.

New Photos: High-Speed photos and SPACE!

All Posts, Photography 2 Comments »

This weekend I took photographs in two extremes: high-speed (1/640, 1/2500, 1/4000 of a second) and longer exposures (1 and 1.5 seconds).  The first set was outside.  I was trying to take pictures fast enough to capture individual droplets (I succeeded somewhat).  The second set was taken through the telescope at Case.  I managed to take surprisingly detailed images of the Moon’s surface.

As always, you can find these collections on my photo gallery.

My roommates and I went to the Stonewall shooting range yesterday. It’s located off of 82, by 77-South. I brought my camera and here are the pictures I took.

Last week, Colin and I took these photos using a combination of laserpointers, penlights, mag-lites, and improvised light-altering materials.

You can see those photos on this gallery page: http://photos.alexhutnik.com/v/longexposure/

Also, if you didn’t check out the other random photos I took, here’s one where I managed to capture a single drop of water in mid-air using a high-speed setting on my camera: http://photos.alexhutnik.com/v/random/kitchen-sink-water-drop.jpg.html.

I’ve been pretty busy lately, but I will certainly be posting more long-exposure shots in the future after I practice a little more.

New Camera

All Posts, Photography No Comments »

If you read my previous post, you knew I was thinking about getting a new digital camera, specifically the Nikon D40.  Well, I went out and bought one last weekend and I can’t shut up about how nice it is.  As far as its point-and-shoot features go, if I just set everything to automatic every shot I take is spot on.  It’s pretty crazy.

Be sure to check out the photo gallery and see all the new photos.  I should be updating it fairly regularly.

I haven’t updated this site in a long time, probably because I’m pretty busy with work. After spending 8 hours in front of my computer at work, I’m not really in the mood to spend another 4 hours on it when I come home. I never thought that would be possible, but it is. Also, I don’t really think I should be updating my blog on company time.

Anyway, I just wanted to say “Thank you” to everyone who wished me a happy birthday yesterday. A few updates:

  • I’m probably going to buy a Nikon D40. Should be pretty awesome. I’ll get a couple of lenses, some filters, a tripod, and a cleaning kit and I should be good to go with that. Obviously, any pictures I take that are worthy of public consumption will be posted on my photo gallery. I’ve always wanted a DSLR and now I have an excuse to buy one, which brings me to update number 2:
  • I’m also probably going to roadtrip from San Jose to Cleveland with Derewecki. It will be tight. More details to follow.
  • I have some planned upgrades to my computers, if anyone is interested (surprisingly, some of you are). 3GHz dual core and 4GB of RAM for my desktop, 1GB RAM upgrade for my laptop, and perhaps an extra drive for my RAID array. With the upgrades and the digital camera, it’s going to be a rather expensive summer, so that means…
  • Alas, I won’t be buying an Xbox 360.

That’s all I’ve got. I hope to add more posts in the near future about my experiences with switching to linux full-time and also some interesting readings for any econ nuts that read this blog.
