Migrating photos to Flickr

I’ve decided to move my photos to flickr. I did this for a number of reasons. For one, I think it will give my pictures greater exposure (no pun intended). Second, I like the flickr interface and features better than Gallery2 (what I was using previously). Third, most of my friends who themselves are amateur photographers are also on flickr and this is a nice way to stay on top of each others’ photos. And lastly, Facebook now added the ability to publish your flickr uploads on your mini-feed.

Here are some of the recent images I’ve taken. Some will look familiar because I’ve reposted them elsewhere.

I’ve also changed photos.alexhutnik.com to be a little snazzier gallery than the one before.

Fighter Jet Photos – Cleveland Airshow

The air show starts tomorrow but to many in Cleveland today, it started at around 10am. Here are some of the photos I managed to take from the roof of the parking garage. What impresses me most (besides the planes) is that all I have is a relatively consumer-grade telephoto lens and at times I was at least a mile away from the planes, yet the pictures still came out fine.

Road Trip: Highlights

I’ve finished uploading pictures to the Road Trip gallery. If you’d like to see just the ones I selected as the best of the best, you can view them in their own gallery.

Overall, it was a great experience. The GPS was an excellent tool to help us get from place to place. My DSLR performed flawlessly. There was an ample number of WiFi hotspots. There were fireworks. Crazy people. Cops. Truckers. Wildlife.

Hopefully my photos come close to doing justice.

New Photos: High-Speed photos and SPACE!

This weekend I took photographs in two extremes: high-speed (1/640, 1/2500, 1/4000 of a second) and longer exposures (1 and 1.5 seconds). The first set was outside. I was trying to take pictures fast enough to capture individual droplets (I succeeded somewhat). The second set was taken through the telescope at Case. I managed to take surprisingly detailed images of the Moon’s surface.

My roommates and I went to the Stonewall shooting range yesterday. It’s located off of 82, by 77-South. I brought my camera and here are the pictures I took.

Last week, Colin and I took these photos using a combination of laserpointers, penlights, mag-lites, and improvised light-altering materials.

New Camera

If you read my previous post, you knew I was thinking about getting a new digital camera, specifically the Nikon D40. Well, I went out and bought one last weekend and I can’t shut up about how nice it is. As far as its point-and-shoot features go, if I just set everything to automatic every shot I take is spot on. It’s pretty crazy.
